The challenge

Why this work matters

Through more than fifteen years of work in education, we have seen capable children held back not by ability but by circumstance — families unable to meet basic educational costs, and young people who have fallen out of formal learning altogether.

Our intent

ABFAED's education work will focus on removing practical barriers to learning so that vulnerable children can access quality, relevant and inclusive education.

Focus areas

What this pillar will address

  • Access to schooling

Supporting children whose families struggle to meet basic educational costs, so that cost is not the reason a child leaves school.

  • Out-of-school children and young people

Creating routes back into learning for children and young people currently outside formal education.

  • Quality and relevance

Drawing on long classroom experience to support learning that is practical, inclusive and relevant to young people's futures.

Measuring progress

Indicators we intend to track

Results will be published once programmes begin and data can be verified. Indicators will be refined with partners during programme design.

  • Children supported to enrol in, or remain in, school
  • Attendance and progression of supported learners
  • Out-of-school young people re-engaged in learning
